Emerging Trends in Aerospace Sensors
Space exploration began with sounding rockets studying the upper atmosphere within few kilometers frm earth. Currently, Space sploration has encompassed the complete solar system with Fly by mission to Sun and mission to study Pluto. The sounding rockets are launched and measurements are made within few minutes of launch. The mission to Pluto and to Sun take few years to reach the destination. The measurements in the hostile environment pose lot of technological challenges. The data acquisition and their transmission back to earth is yet another important aspect. This presentation will focus on the measurement challenges in launch vehicle health for reusable launch vehicles. The measurement of very low temperature, pressure in Mars to very high pressure, High temperature and corrosive environments in Venus are few challenges that will be addressed. The challenges to use sensors for long duration missions like power, size, reliability etc will also be addressed.
